18th JCSDA Technical Review Meeting and Science Workshop
June 7 - 11, 2021
Held virtually
About
The JCSDA supports development of science to accelerate and optimize assimilation of satellite data in operational environmental prediction systems. Partner agencies conduct research internally, while the JCSDA supports external research through competitively awarded grants and contracts to the broader scientific community. These research efforts are complementary and coordinated with one another.
The Annual JCSDA Technical Review Meeting and Science Workshop facilitates this coordination and the assessment of current and planned scientific development. Typically lasting two and a half days, this meeting provides ample time for informal scientific discussions and formal presentations. Scientists, software engineers, and managers from all partnering institutions participate. The results and discussions stemming from this meeting are used to plan future research efforts.
JCSDA research encompasses six priority areas approved by the Science Steering Committee:
Radiative Transfer Modeling
Preparation for assimilation of new data and data from new instruments
Assimilation of satellite data impacted by clouds and precipitation
Assimilation of land surface satellite observations
Assimilation of ocean surface satellite observations
Atmospheric composition, chemistry, and aerosols
In practice, the JCSDA manages its research efforts through a set of team-based Projects:
Community Radiative Transfer Modeling (CRTM)
Observations: New and Improved Observations (NIO) and Impacts of Observing Systems (IOS)
Sea-ice, Ocean, and Coupled data Assimilation (SOCA)
Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI)
Land Data Assimilation (LAND)
Every year, the JCSDA looks forward to hosting the Technical Review Meeting and Science Workshop to highlight the innovative research and project efforts of the JCSDA and wider scientific community. Anyone who is interested in learning more about the work coming from the JCSDA and their partners is welcome to attend the annual review meeting.
Virtual Meeting Information
Due to COVID-19, the 18th JCSDA Science and Technical Workshop will be held virtually via Google Meet.
The workshop sessions will take place the week of June 7 - 11, 2021 in 3-hour blocks Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 11:00 am MT.
Registering for the workshop will give you general access for all five days, but you are welcome to only attend sessions that work with your schedule and interests.

Registration
Registration for the 18th JCSDA Technical Review Meeting and Science Workshop is now closed.
There is no registration fee for this workshop.
Due to the virtual nature of this meeting, we will not be accepting poster presentations this year. Rather, we will be promoting further exploration of research topics through additional lightning presentations and discussion groups. More information on these groups will be released closer to meeting time.
Full presentations are expected to be 20 minutes in length and lightning talks should be 5 minutes in length, which is approximately 1 titles slide and 2 slides of material. As in previous years, you will be notified of presentation selection after registration closes.
