Last week three members of the JCSDA staff—Dr. Shih-Wei Wei, Dr. Sarah Lu and Dr. Maryam Abdi-Oskouei—attended the 2023 Meteorology and Climate-Modeling for Air Quality Conference, or MAC-MAQ, at UC Davis in Davis, California. As a member of the conference Technical Planning Committee Dr. Abdi-Oskouei helped design the three-day program. She also presented a poster on working towards an end-to-end data assimilation system for atmospheric composition with JEDI framework. Dr. Lu gave a talk on investigating the weather effects of smoke aerosols in the Unified Forecast System and presented a poster on the impacts of local circulation on the coastal ozone problem in the New York metropolitan area. Dr. Wei presented a poster on connecting aerosol modeling and numerical weather prediction from data assimilation, focusing on how to incorporate aerosol-affected radiance measurements in data assimilation.
A lot of interest was expressed at the conference in seeing presentations on JEDI at more conferences and attending JEDI training in the future!
